Route 66: The Mother Road

The United States first interstate system, Route 66, was once the only way to travel across the country for many immigrants and travel thirsty citizens. Today, much of the mother road has been lost to new freeway systems, however much of the roads history and charm still remains. Beginning in California's most infamous ghost town, Calico, and ending at the Wigwam Motel in San Bernadino, California, this essay aims to capture a fraction of the adventure felt by those who traveled the same road in years past. All stops include Calico Ghost Town, Peggy Sue's Diner, Elmer's Bottle Ranch, and the Wigwam Motel.
